We finished our two part series of Beeswax studies. We got to the fun part, we were able to make our own beeswax candles. Thank you bees! We discussed Winter Soltice and how dark it is now, and that candles would be really cozy to light in our house at nighttime. Winter Soltice the shortest day and the longest night. We recognized the fact that Summer Solstice is the opposite.  Emily suggested that we make a personal decision if we gift our candle away, or keep it ourselves. Hmmmm....I wonder what we will decide?

We met with Emily on Wednesday morning and learned about beeswax, honeybees, thier social structure and so much more! We brainstormed our existing knowledge about honey bees, and we knew quite a bit. Then we dove in deeper. We learned the roles that all bees play, including the queen bee, who is in charge of laying all the eggs. We learned that bees need honey for them, as well as for us to enjoy. We were able to suck on honeycombs, and eat yummy honey on 460 bread. What a treat! Eating and learning, I cannot think of a better combination.
